About

Hi – I’m a historian interested in North American social history. This blog is a space for me to upload my research about the debate over Chinese labour in post Civil War United States.

I found your short historiography on the Chinese Exclusion Act extremely helpful for a research paper. Have you published a version of that in any academic journals? May I have your name so that I can credit you properly in my references? Thank you.

    • No problem. My name is Matthew Annis. Although I don’t have an article published specifically about the Chinese Exclusion Act 1882, I do have another article that could help. That article is: Annis, Matthew(2010) ‘The “Chinese Question” and the Canada-US Border, 1885: “Why don’t Governor Squire send his troops to Semiahmoo to prevent the twelve or fifteen thousand pagans from crossing our borders from British Columbia?”’, American Review of Canadian Studies, 40: 3, 351 — 361
